Diamond CMTFO and CASS, University of California, San Diego, California 92093, USA Abstract Negative compressibility ITG turbulence in a linear plasma device (CSDX) can induce a negative viscosity increment. However, even with this negative increment, we show that the total axial viscosity remains positive definite, i.e. no intrinsic axial flow can be generated by pure ITG turbulence in a straight magnetic field. This differs from the case of electron drift wave (EDW) turbulence, where the total viscosity can turn negative, at least transiently. When the flow gradient is steepened by any drive mechanism, so that the parallel shear flow instability (PSFI) exceeds the ITG drive, the flow profile saturates at a level close to the value above which PSFI becomes dominant. This saturated flow gradient exceeds the PSFI linear threshold, and grows with ∇Ti0 as |∇V∥|/|k∥cs| ∼ |∇Ti0|/(k∥Ti0). This scaling trend characterizes the effective stiffness of the parallel flow gradient.

AXIAL FLOW IN A ROTATIONAL COAXIAL RHEOMETER SYSTEM 1. BINGHAM PLASTIC
A mathematical analysis has been carried out for the axial flow of a Bingham plastic fluid, in the Concentric Cylinder Viscometer which consists of a cylindrical sample holder (the cup) and a cylindrical spindle (the bob) coaxial with the cup. The fluid to be tested flows through the annular gap of the cup and the bob system, sheared by the rotation of the inner cylinder, while the outer cy...
متن کاملMathematical modeling of blood flow in a stenosed artery under MHD effect through porous medium
In this investigation, a mathematical model for studying oscillatory flow of blood in a stenosed artery under the influence of transverse magnetic field through porous medium has been developed. The equations of motion of blood flow are solved analytically. The analytical expressions for axial velocity, volumetric flow rate, pressure gradient, resistance to blood flow and shear stress have been...
متن کاملLinear instability of magnetic Taylor-Couette flow with Hall effect.
The influence of the Hall effect on the linear marginal stability of a molecular hydrodynamic Taylor-Couette flow in the presence of an axial uniform magnetic field is considered. The Hall effect leads to the situation that the Taylor-Couette flow becomes unstable for any ratio of the angular velocities of the inner and outer cylinders. The instability, however, does not exist for both signs of...
متن کاملAXIAL FLOW IN A ROTATIONAL COAXIAL RHEOMETER SYSTEM 11: HERSCHEL BULKLEY MODEL
Following recent works of several authors like Huilgol, Bhattacharya etd. and Javadpour et al., this paper is to contribute further to the literature of axial flow in a rotational coaxial rheometer. We consider axial flow of Herschel Bulkley mode1 between two concentric cylinders with the inner one rotating, while the outer cylinder is held stationary. An attempt has been made to direct the...

The present paper deals with a two-layered mathematical model for blood flow through stenotic tube in porous medium under the effect of an applied magnetic field. In this mathematical model, the blood is considered as Newtonian fluid of variable viscosity in the central region and plasma fluid which is considered as Newtonian fluid of constant viscosity in the peripheral region of the stenotic ...
